Sensex Closes 99 Points Lower

Mumbai, Sep 5 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Monday closed 99 points lower than its previous close, paring some of its intra-day losses.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 16,678.34 points, closed at 16,722.21 points, down 99.25 points or 0.59 percent from its previous close at 16,821.46 points.

The Sensex had slipped to an intra-day low of 16,561.46 points.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also ended in the red, 0.44 percent down at 5,017.65 points.

Both benchmark indices had advanced over 6 percent in last week's trade.

Broader markets, too, edged lower but BSE midcap index managed moderate gains.
