Mohali, Oct 21 (IANS): England fast bowler Tim Bresnan was fined 7.5 percent of his match fees for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct during the third ODI against India here Thursday night.

The ICC in a statement Friday said Bresnan was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the code which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match", which also includes snatching the cap from the umpire.

The incident took place at the end of the 18th over when the fast bowler snatched his cap from on-field umpire Sudhir Asnani after finishing his fifth over. The charge was laid by the on-field umpires Billy Bowden, Asnani and third umpire S. Ravi

Bresnan pleaded not guilty to the charge. As such, a hearing took place at the end of the match which was attended by all the umpires, the player, England coach Andy Flower and England team manager Phil Neale.

Match Referee Roshan Mahanama said that the umpires deserve the utmost respect not only because they do a difficult job in the middle but also because millions of budding and aspiring cricketers watch every move of the players.

"This makes all the international cricketers more responsible and accountable for their actions, particularly in their dealings with the umpires in various match situations," Mahanama said.
