Bengaluru: NCC Christ University celebrates Independence Day

Bengaluru, Aug 22: While the country marks its 78th Independence Day and the celebration rings loud with heads held high and heart full of reverence, the no.2 company of 9 Karnataka Battalion NCC, Christ University commemorates the day with enthusiasm, pride and honour, at their campus to offer their respect and remember the ones who were lost in our fight for the freedom struggle.

The chief guests, Major Sooraj and Dr Fr Joseph CC, vice-chancellor, accompanied by Lt Sajina Begum the ANO captain, Dr Fr Viju P Devassy, pro vice-chancellor and members of management, graced the occasion with their presence and ensured that the spirit of freedom and Independence refuses to be indomitable within us.

Having been adjudged as the best NCC unit continuously for the last 6 years, Christ University’s NCC Unit is also honoured as the best cadet in India among NCC. As Sanchia, one the members of the NCC Unit, says “NCC is a very organized body, and we take pride in Independence Day and Republic Day.”

The programme was initiated by felicitating the chief guest and paying respect to the national flag, followed by the hoisting ceremony that strengthened the grip of patriotism in our souls.

The vice-chancellor addressed the cadets and the standing crowd with his words full of fervour, as it echoes the pride that we carry from the past to the present. He brought forward the array of achievements that the country has garnered post-colonial times.

In particular, importance to education is stated upon when he talked about the increment of the literacy rate to almost 77 percent now from those initial 20 universities, he proudly declared the growth to 1000 higher education institutes. Other recent significant accomplishments include the growth enrolment ratio for women increasing to 27%, opening up a wealth of opportunity to millions of young Indians. This has been reflective of the quality education which this premiere institute promotes and upholds.

Igniting the passions in our heart for the tireless efforts of previous generations, including our freedom fighters, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and other leaders of the nation, those who have transformed our nation, he says, “that as we look to the future, we see challenges and opportunity, particularly in education. As Mahatma Gandhi said, the future depends on what we do in the present. So, we are the creators of the future of India”

As he inspired all to face the challenges head on, he concludes the programme by saying “Let us make choices that would make our founders proud. Choices that would create a higher, brighter, and stronger prosperous India for our generations to come”. Congratulating every dignitary for their gracious presence and making this Independence Day celebration meaningful and successful. While extending his heartfelt gratitude to the NCC unit for their undying commitment towards serving the nation.
