Mangalore, Nov 23: On the second day of hearing relating to the murder of Anita from Barimar, Bantwal taluk, in the case filed against Cyanide Mohan, who is believed to have murdered over 20 girls by feeding cyanide tablets to them after promising them to marry, four witnesses including the cashier in a Hassan lodged adduced evidence in the fast track court here.

Kantaraj, cashier of a lodge in Hassan, said that Mohan had mentioned his name as Sudhakar Kulal, and that of the girl with him as Anita, in the register of the lodge. He explained that at around 5.45 am the next day, Mohan went out with the girl, but returned alone within 15 minutes to say that he was vacating the room. When Mohan asked him as to whether he had seen the report about the murder of Anita that appeared in the evening paper in Hassan the same day, the cashier answered in the negative.

Manjunath, cashier of the canteen near Hassan bus stand, who signed the inquest report as witness, said that the accused was present when he was taken to the lodge and record things found in the room of the lodge. Charan Kumar, another witness, also told about recovery of cyanide from Mohan’s possession.  One of the witnesses remained absent.

Special public prosecutor, Cheyyabba Beary, is handling the cases of serial murders allegedly committed by Mohan, on behalf of the government. Hearing in Anita’s murder case is expected to be completed before the end of this month, after which, the cases of Leevati from Venoor and Sunanda from Sullia are likely to come up.
