Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 25: Mohammed Basheer, father of Mohammed Arafat (23), a resident of Melebeedi in Ullal Kotepura near here, has approached the second JMFC Court here, seeking directions to Bajpe police station personnel to release his son from illegal custody. However, Bajpe police inspector, Dinakar Shetty has denied the allegation.

Basheer says that the policemen of Bajpe had visited his home and taken Arafat with them at midnight on November 18. He alleges he had visited Bajpe police station the next day, and seen his son there.  “I was asked to come to the police station the next day, but on all the three days, I was made to wait till 10 pm, before sending back empty-handed. The policemen have not released Arafat,” a petition filed by advocate, Dinesh Hegde Ulepady on behalf of the petitioner, says.

Basheer had sought a court search warrant in this connection. When the court commissioner appointed by the court visited Bajpe police station, he did not find Arafat there. The policemen also filed a statement in writing in the court, denying that they had held Arafat illegally.  Now a petition filed in the court has sought action against a police personnel from Ullal and  Bajpe stations, who had  allegedly visited the home of Arafat together on the night of Nove 18, said Ulepady. He expects the court to issue its orders on Saturday.

The policemen say that Arafat is facing allegations of involvement with various cases, and that the above story is fabricated with the specific intention of escaping arrest. “If he is with us, how can we deny the same through a statement filed in the court?” the inspector questioned. Denying police role in the missing of the Arafat, Dinakar Shetty feels that the relatives of the youth have hidden him somewhere.
