Mangaluru, Dec 9: The 25th anniversary jubilee celebration of Padua Primary School and PU College was a momentous event marking a quarter-century of excellence in education. The celebration took place on December 6 at the school campus.

The event commenced with a prayer song sung by the PU students. The dignitaries present included the president, most rev Dr Peter Paul Saldana, bishop of Mangalore Diocese and president of the Catholic Board of Education, chief guest Rohan Monteiro, managing director of Rohan Corporation Pvt Ltd and Rachana Entrepreneur awardee; guest of honour, Dr Praveen Leo Lasrado, secretary of the Catholic Board of Education; Jayanna CD, deputy director of PU Education, Dakshina Kannada District; H R Eshwar, block educational officer, Mangaluru South; Vinod D'Souza, vice president of Bendur parish pastoral parishad; Patsy Britto, secretary of Bendur parish pastoral parishad; Fr Walter D'Souza, correspondent of Padua Educational Institutions; Molly D'Souza, headmistress of Padua English Higher Primary School; Olivia Fernandes, headmistress of Padua High School; Mariette J Mascarenhas, principal of Padua PU College; along with the former headmasters, headmistresses, and principals. They were escorted to the dais by Fr Arun Wilson Lobo, the campus director of Padua Institutions.

Dr Peter Paul Saldana, the bishop, delivered the presidential address, adding a celebratory note to the event. In his message, the bishop emphasized that knowledge is not just about intellect but about acquiring dignity and respect through values such as humility, kindness, and compassion. He congratulated the staff, management, and students for their achievements in both academics and extracurricular activities, and took pride in Padua's tradition of welcoming students from all backgrounds, especially the underprivileged. He highlighted that the school offers opportunities for growth and dignity, with provisions to make education accessible. The Bishop further encouraged the students to contribute positively to the school's legacy, making their teachers proud. He acknowledged the school's enduring spirit of equality, justice, and fraternity, thanking everyone for their contributions to maintaining this vision. He concluded by offering blessings and congratulations for the silver jubilee.

The event also featured an awards ceremony, where outstanding students were recognized for their academic achievements and sportsmanship. Fr Vincent Monteiro, the former correspondent, along with Alice Noronha, Celine D'Souza, Francis D'Souza (former headmasters and headmistresses), Dr Michael Santhumayor, and Gladys Aloysius (former principals), all of whom have made significant contributions to the school and college over the years, were honored for their long-standing dedication and hard work. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Fr Arun Lobo.

The cultural programme began with a high note, showcasing the diverse talents of the students through dance performances, music, and skits presented by various grade levels. A special segment of the celebration featured alumni sharing memories of their college life and expressing gratitude for the foundation the institution provided them. Alumni from various years returned to their alma mater, reconnecting with old friends and teachers.

The 25th anniversary jubilee celebration of Padua PU College and primary school was a memorable event that reflected the institution's dedication to fostering excellence in education.
