New Delhi, Feb 22: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called out Air India for poor service after being allotted a “broken and sunken” seat on a flight from Bhopal to Delhi. Taking to X, he accused the airline of “cheating passengers” and questioned its service quality despite the Tata Group takeover.
Chouhan stated that airline staff admitted the seat was defective and should not have been assigned. However, he chose to travel in the same seat to avoid inconveniencing others. “My co-passengers offered me a better seat, but I didn’t want to trouble them,” he said.

Union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu has spoken to Chouhan and assured prompt action. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been directed to investigate and recommend corrective measures.
Following widespread criticism online, Air India issued an apology, saying, “This does not reflect the standard of service we strive to provide, and we are conducting a thorough investigation.” However, social media users mocked the airline’s response, with one commenting, “If this is how they treat a Union Minister, imagine their service for common passengers.”
The incident has once again raised concerns over Air India’s service standards, prompting calls for urgent improvements.
