Imphal, Feb 23: In a major crackdown on vehicle-related crimes, Manipur Police have recovered 15 stolen vehicles used for extortion, crimes against women, and other illegal activities, officials reported on Sunday.

A senior police official stated that, in response to the surge in vehicle thefts, the state police launched a special intensive drive, leading to the recovery of 10 cars and five two-wheelers across Imphal East and Thoubal districts in the past 24 hours.

During the operation, police arrested two individuals, identified as Pussam Azamaluddin (28) and Makakmayum Nawaz Khan (23), who were found in possession of two of the stolen vehicles.

Among the seized vehicles were three Toyota Fortuners, three Mahindra Thars, and a Tata Safari.

“These stolen vehicles have been linked to extortion, crimes against women, and other illegal activities,” the official confirmed.

The police have vowed to intensify the drive, extending it to other districts to curb such offenses.

Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious vehicles and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to combat this growing crime.

Meanwhile, in separate operations, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, carried out intelligence-based missions in Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Churachandpur districts, leading to the apprehension of two militants affiliated with hill and valley-based outfits.

The operations resulted in the seizure of eight weapons, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), ammunition, and other war-like materials on Saturday night.

According to a defence spokesperson, the Assam Rifles scored a major success by capturing a key operative of the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA). Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces tracked the individual, surrounded him, and took him into custody. Preliminary questioning confirmed his involvement in illegal activities.

The arrested individuals and seized materials have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation.

As security forces ramp up efforts to curb criminal activities, authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to assist in maintaining law and order in the region.
