New Delhi, Feb 24: Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani emphasized that achieving India's 'Viksit Bharat' vision requires not just economic strength but also a healthy population. Their remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated them among 10 prominent figures to champion the national campaign against obesity.

Responding to the nomination, Anand Mahindra took to social media platform X to highlight the importance of small lifestyle changes, such as reducing cooking oil consumption by 10 percent, which he believes can have a significant impact on personal health, financial savings, and environmental sustainability. He expressed gratitude to PM Modi for launching the initiative.

Nandan Nilekani also acknowledged the Prime Minister’s effort, calling the #FightObesity campaign crucial. He pointed out that, beyond health benefits, reducing edible oil consumption could bolster the economy by decreasing India’s reliance on imports. He shared that along with dietary modifications, he has incorporated daily exercise to manage obesity-related risks.

Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty, also named in the initiative, extended the challenge to Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, encouraging them to further amplify the message.

This national movement aligns with PM Modi’s Fit India initiative, aiming to create awareness about mindful eating and healthy lifestyle choices. The Prime Minister has urged citizens to adopt better dietary habits, stressing that reducing excessive oil consumption is not just an individual responsibility but a step toward ensuring the well-being of families and society at large.
