100 female students fall ill after consuming contaminated food at Madhya Pradesh University

Bhopal, Feb 25: Around 100 female students at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, fell ill after consuming contaminated food at their hostel mess. Fortunately, none are in critical condition, with resident doctors providing initial treatment.

District Magistrate Harshal Pancholi confirmed that a team of medical officers and senior officials visited the campus to investigate the cause. Food samples were taken for testing to check for contamination. Students reported symptoms of indigestion, and some were sent to the university's medical facility for further care.

An insider revealed that the students had consumed veg biryani on Sunday, and the caterer reused leftover food the next day, leading to the illness. Notably, only female students who repeatedly requested the same biryani experienced symptoms, while male students had no issues.

Currently, all students are stable, and the university continues to monitor the situation as investigations proceed. The incident is suspected to be related to foodborne infection caused by stale food.
