Mangaluru, Mar 13: The department of business administration organized an insightful awareness session on the PoSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act to educate students on workplace safety and legal provisions. The session was led by Vidya Shenoy, a certified PoSH trainer, who provided valuable insights into the law and its implications.

Shenoy began the session by narrating the real-life case of Gaurav Pramanik and Richa Gautham, followed by a discussion on a sexual harassment incident at Mahindra Company to highlight the relevance of the PoSH Act. She explained the evolution of the Act and emphasized the critical distinction between harassment and sexual harassment, elaborating on its various forms.

The session shed light on the fundamental principle of the PoSH Act—impact vs intention—and the key aspects of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), focusing on prohibition, prevention, and redressal. Shenoy also addressed workplace misconduct, emphasizing ways to recognize and manage disrespectful behaviours.

Further, she detailed the inquiry process for cases involving perpetrators and discussed formal and informal resolution mechanisms, including the SHEBOX platform. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where students actively participated in discussions.

The event was compered by Mitchell D’Souza, with a welcome address by Niyanth and a vote of thanks delivered by Dhrithi Amin. The session provided valuable awareness on workplace ethics and legal frameworks, reinforcing the importance of a safe and respectful professional environment.
