Mumbai, Apr 7: Author and filmmaker Tahira Kashyap, wife of Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, has revealed a relapse of breast cancer, nearly seven years after she first battled the disease in 2018. Sharing her journey once again, Tahira made the announcement on World Health Day, using the occasion to highlight the importance of regular cancer screenings.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Tahira wrote, “Seven year itch or the power of regular screening - it's a perspective, I had like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me... I still got this.”
Her caption, infused with resilience and hope, read, “When life gives you lemons make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink... Because for one it’s a better drink and two you know you will give it your best once again.” She tagged the post with #onemoretime, #breastcancer, and #regularscreening, urging others not to shy away from timely check-ups.
Tahira was first diagnosed in 2018 with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ), a stage 0 form of breast cancer involving high-grade malignant cells. She underwent a mastectomy that year and has since been an outspoken advocate for breast cancer awareness.
Recently, Tahira also shared empowering images of herself with a shaved head, the result of chemotherapy, and reflected on her journey. “I know so many brave women who have fought with all their might. I bow my head in respect to all of them. Let everyone’s experience be a reminder to value our lives... Early breast cancer detection is curable, not just treatable,” she wrote.
Tahira’s strength and openness continue to inspire countless others as she re-embraces the fight with courage and gratitude.
