Mumbai, Apr 19: The Indian film industry is abuzz with excitement as the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) prepares to make waves in Mumbai this May. Set to be a landmark event, WAVES 2025 will bring together some of the biggest names in Indian cinema along with visionaries and trailblazers from the global media and entertainment landscape.

Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday to share a promotional video that featured iconic stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Vikrant Massey, and Nagarjuna. The actors extended personal invitations to the summit, and hinted at the pivotal role Prime Minister Narendra Modi will play in advancing the dialogue around India's creative economy.

In the video, the stars tease the summit’s larger goal — to serve as a global platform for collaboration, innovation, and the future of entertainment. PM Modi is expected to drive the conversation forward, underlining the strategic significance of India’s soft power through storytelling and digital content.

WAVES is being hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in association with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Create in India Challenge. Netflix has come on board as the principal sponsor, with Reskilll managing the event execution.

Spanning four days, from May 1 to May 4, the summit will take place in the vibrant BKC district of Mumbai. It promises to be a melting pot of filmmakers, tech innovators, creative professionals, and industry disruptors. With panels, masterclasses, and showcases, WAVES 2025 aims to reimagine the future of storytelling in an increasingly digital world.

Among the highlights is the highly anticipated Trailer Making Competition—the flagship contest of the summit—which drew 134 entries from a curated group of top-tier talent. From over 3,000 applicants, only 600 were handpicked and trained for participation, ensuring the summit boasts a cohort of the most passionate and skilled individuals in the field.

WAVES 2025 is more than just a summit—it’s a bold leap into the future of media and entertainment, with India taking center stage.
