Washington, May 8: As tensions surge between India and Pakistan following India’s precision military strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’, US President Donald Trump has expressed deep concern over the developments and offered to “help” in de-escalating the situation.
In a candid interaction with reporters at the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump commented on the recent airstrikes carried out by India targeting terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead.

"It's so terrible. My position is I get along with both. I know both very well and I want to see them work it out," Trump said. “They have gone tit-for-tat, so hopefully they can stop now. If I can do anything to help, I will be there.”
India launched the early morning strikes on Wednesday targeting nine high-value terrorist infrastructure sites across PoK and Pakistani territory, marking a significant military retaliation to the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Trump, while reacting to the operation, said he hopes for a swift end to the conflict. "We heard about it just as we were walking into the Oval Office. It's a shame… They've been fighting for many decades, even centuries. I just hope it ends very quickly,” he remarked.
The US administration echoed Trump’s sentiment, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating that Washington is closely monitoring the situation. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rubio said, “I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I echo President Trump’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.”
Trump’s remarks underscore growing international concerns over potential escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, even as New Delhi clarified that its actions were “measured, proportionate, and non-escalatory,” aimed solely at dismantling terror infrastructure.
The global community, including the United States, continues to urge restraint and dialogue, even as India maintains that future responses will be guided by national security imperatives and zero tolerance for cross-border terrorism.
