Yenepoya Medical College hosts ONCO YENHANCE 2025

Mangaluru, May 16: The department of anesthesiology at Yenepoya Medical College, in association with the Society of Onco-Anesthesia and Perioperative Care (SOAPC) National and Indian society of Anesthesiologist (ISA) Mangaluru Chapter, successfully conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled 'ONCO YENHANCE - Excellence in Onco anesthesia and Care' on May 11, in Auditorium, 5th floor, YDC building.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 145 delegates, including anesthesiologists, oncologists, palliative care specialists, and postgraduate students across Karnataka. The CME underscored the critical role anesthesiologists play in optimizing cancer surgery outcomes and improving patient safety.

CME was inaugurated by our chief guest Dr M Vijayakumar hon’ble vice chancellor Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and leading onco-surgeon who addressed the gathering, emphasized on the importance of CME and collaborative working for better outcome of oncology patient. Dr Namrata Ranganath professor and former head department of anesthesia Kidwai memorial institute of oncology, guest of honor highlighted the emergence of Onco-anesthesia as a distinct super speciality. Dr M S Moosabba principal YMCH gave presidential address. Dr Harish Hegde B, professor and head of the department, organizing chairman stressed on need on more no of onco-anesthesiologist for better care of oncology patients. Dr Habib Rehaman A A, medical superintendent YMCH, Dr Kishan Shetty president ISA Mangaluru chapter, and Dr Shankarnarayan P graced the occasion. The welcome address was given by Dr Thippeswamy HG, associate professor, organizing secretary and Dr Priti Sherikar, assistant professor, organizing secretary, and onco-anesthesiologist YMC delivered the vote of thanks. Dr Swati Kumari K was the treasurer of the event and Dr Mitalee Pareek and Dr Ashitha Shetty, senior residents, YMC, anchored the programme.

CME covered key themes including preoperative optimization in oncology patients, anesthetic considerations in microvascular and major cancer surgeries, management of difficult airway, effects of chemotherapy and radiation on anesthesia, and specific considerations for HIPEC procedures. It also highlighted the integration of postoperative pain management with palliative care, along with advances in perioperative oncology. A major highlight was the panel discussion titled 'Bridging the gap between oncologists and anesthetists across the perioperative continuum', featuring a Senior Oncosurgeons and an expert anesthesiologist. The session offered valuable insights into effective interdisciplinary communication, greatly benefiting the younger generation of medical profession.

The resource persons included faculty from Yenepoya Medical College, Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology, as well as experts from Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hubli, and Manipal."

The programme was well appreciated and placed on high esteems by all attending delegates with special accolades to the academic feast, venue, Food and the overall arrangements. The success of this workshop can be attributed to the contribution of all postgraduates and faculty, department of anesthesiology, YMC Mangaluru.
