Pune, May 22: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep concern over the alleged suicide of Vaishnavi Hagawane, daughter-in-law of expelled NCP leader Rajendra Hagawane, in Pune’s Bavdhan area. The 26-year-old reportedly took her life on May 16, with relatives alleging dowry harassment.

Calling it a ‘serious incident,’ Fadnavis said the government is closely monitoring the case. Several accused, including Rajendra Hagawane and family members, face FIRs for abetment to suicide and domestic violence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). While Rajendra and his son Sushil remain absconding, three others have been arrested.

The Chief Minister also welcomed the decision to grant custody of the victim’s child to her maternal family. Meanwhile, the NCP, led by deputy CM Ajit Pawar, has expelled Rajendra Hagawane and his son Sushil from the party.
