Saudi Arabia cracks down on illegal Hajj transport: Heavy fines and vehicle seizures for violators

Daijiworld Media Network - Riyadh

Riyadh, May 27: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has issued a strong warning ahead of the Hajj season, strictly prohibiting the transportation of visit visa holders to Mecca and other sacred sites without official Hajj permits. Violators could face penalties of up to SAR 100,000, and risk having their vehicles confiscated.

As reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the ban will be strictly enforced from Dhu Al Qidah 1 to Dhu Al Hijjah 14, a critical period in the Islamic calendar leading up to and including the Hajj pilgrimage. The ministry emphasized that the regulations are designed to maintain order and ensure the safety, security, and smooth experience of all registered pilgrims.

Transporting individuals without valid Hajj authorization, whether knowingly or otherwise, will not be tolerated. The Ministry urged full compliance and called on the public to report violations. Citizens and residents can report suspicious activity by dialing 911 in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, or 999 in other regions of the Kingdom.

Two arrested for violating transport rules

In a recent enforcement action, Hajj Security Forces arrested two Saudi nationals for attempting to smuggle 15 individuals into Mecca without valid Hajj permits. The violators were intercepted and referred to the appropriate legal authorities for further action.

Officials confirmed that their operations will continue throughout the Hajj season with zero tolerance for violations. The Ministry reiterated that protecting the sanctity and orderly conduct of Hajj is a national priority.

The renewed crackdown reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to preserve the integrity of one of Islam’s most sacred rituals, ensuring that only those with proper authorization participate in the pilgrimage.
