Mangaluru, Jun 14: St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru hosted its XV Graduation Day 2025 on Saturday, June 14, celebrating the academic achievements of its graduating students. The event was marked by inspiring speeches, reflections on success, and a call to contribute meaningfully to society.
This year, 94 rank holders were honored, with special prizes awarded to exceptional performers. In total, 2,567 students graduated this year. In an emotionally touching moment, Greta Rodrigues received the convocation certificate on behalf of her late daughter Gloria Rodrigues, who departed to her heavenly abode last year. This moment touched everyone’s heart who gave a standing ovation to the memory of Gloria Rodrigues.














The ceremony featured a solemn oath-taking led by Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, followed by the official declaration of the convocation by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ. The college choir led the gathering in prayer, and the college band escorted the dignitaries to the dais.
In his address as the chief guest, Prof B Ravi, director, NIT Karnataka, Surathkal stated, “Students are graduating in a special year, 2025, where the country is facing two wars - one on the border and other in the professional life. The battle between the artificial intelligence and natural intelligence. Learning does not stop in the classroom; it is a lifelong learning. Empathy differentiates AI and humanity.”
The guest of honour, Antony Mariappa, IFS, deputy conservator of forest, Mangaluru division, remarked, “Graduation stage is the stepping to the world; you have to understand the real self and motivate yourself. Discipline, determination and dedication are the key elements to lead a success in life.”
Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, president of Mangaluru Jesuit Educational Society (MJES) and Provincial of Karnataka Jesuit Province, encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning. “Rather than viewing education as a means to economic gains, students must view education as way to serve the society and become a model for others. Never forget the ladder that helped you climb to success and treat everyone with same respect. Education is not only the instrument of democracy, economy, society," said Fr Vaz.
Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru, urged students to incorporate the values learned at St Aloysius and propagate them to those whose lives they touch. “Any issue that touches your heart becomes your own. In the era of rapidly advancing technology, be the touch that light is other people’s life,” he said.
Dr Praveen Martis SJ, principal of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), welcomed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of purposeful action. The registrar, Dr Alwyn D’Sa, presented the list of graduating students, recognizing outstanding achievers. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by A Vanaja, acknowledging the efforts of faculty, students, and organizers in making the graduation ceremony a memorable occasion.
