Mangaluru, Jun 15: With heavy rains lashing the coastal region, the speed limit along the Surathkal–Nanthoor Junction stretch of the National Highway has been capped at 50 km/h.
The restriction will remain in force until the end of September. Several sections of the highway have been damaged due to the continuous downpour, making them unsafe for high-speed travel. Considering the safety of road users, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invoked its powers under the National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002, to enforce the speed regulation.

According to NHAI project director Abdulla Javed Azmi wherever service roads are available, especially in Panambur, Surathkal, and Baikampady areas, two-wheelers and three-wheelers are advised to use them to reduce congestion and avoid accidents.
As heavy and light vehicles, including two- and three-wheelers, are currently using the main highway, the damaged stretches are causing vehicles to swerve suddenly to avoid potholes, increasing the risk of accidents. The advisory aims to promote smoother and safer traffic movement.
