Mangaluru, June 15: Two separate fire incidents caused by electrical short circuits were reported in Ullal on Sunday, June 15 affecting a private hostel building in Deralakatte and Gausiya Mosque near Montugoli. No casualties have been reported.

In the first incident, a fire broke out around 7:45 pm on the ground floor of a five-storey private building owned by Venugopal Shetty, near Deralakatte junction. The fire reportedly originated from the switchboard due to a short circuit.

Swift action by local residents helped contain the flames using extinguishing materials sourced from a nearby petrol pump. A total of 140 female students residing in the upper floors were safely evacuated and relocated to other hostels by the institution.

The fire and emergency service personnel arrived late, drawing criticism from locals.

According to tahsildar Puttaraju, although the electrical panels on the ground floor were completely destroyed, no one was injured in the incident.

Konaje police and fire officials were involved in the response.

In a separate incident, a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit sparked a fire at the Gausiya Mosque near Montugoli. The flames spread quickly, damaging the walls and several interior items. However, the mosque's management committee successfully extinguished the fire. Konaje police and the tahsildar visited the site for inspection.
