Mangaluru, June 17: A young physiotherapy doctor from a private hospital lost his life on the spot in a tragic road accident that occurred late June 16 night near Taretota in Nanthoor. The incident took place when the speeding car he was driving skidded on the rain-soaked road, hit the divider, and overturned two to three times.

The deceased has been identified as Dr Mohammad Amal (29), a native of Alappuzha, Kerala. He had recently completed his physiotherapy degree and joined duty at a private medical college hospital in Deralakatte.

The accident took place around 11:45 pm when he was travelling in his Ciaz car with a female friend, a Kerala-based student of Kanachur Medical College. While heading from Nanthoor towards Pumpwell, Amal reportedly lost control of the car near the National Highway Authority office due to high speed and slippery road conditions. The vehicle hit the divider and crashed into the metal grills, flipping multiple times before landing back on the road.

Amal suffered serious injuries and succumbed before he could be shifted to the hospital, according to police sources.

At the time of the accident, several vehicles were passing by at high speed. In the chaos that followed, a heavily loaded lorry coming from behind lost control and overturned on the road as the driver tried to brake suddenly when the vehicles ahead stopped. This led to a major traffic jam along the Nanthoor–Pumpwell stretch for some time during the night.

The student travelling with Amal sustained minor injuries and is out of danger. She has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Kadri traffic police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
