Barry Morphew re-arrested for wife’s murder after discovery of new evidence

Colorado, Jun 21: Barry Morphew, a Colorado man previously cleared of charges in the 2020 disappearance of his wife Suzanne Morphew, has been re-arrested following a new grand jury indictment. Authorities announced his arrest on June 20 in Arizona, two days after he was indicted for first-degree murder.

Morphew was earlier charged in 2021 after Suzanne went missing on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020, but those charges were dropped in April 2022 due to lack of sufficient evidence. Her remains were later found in September 2023 in a shallow grave in Saguache County, reigniting the investigation.

A 2024 autopsy revealed drugs used to tranquilize animals in Suzanne’s system, confirming homicide as the cause of death. Prosecutors also highlighted a deleted text from Suzanne days before her disappearance, stating: “I’m done... We just need to figure this out civilly.”

Authorities now plan to extradite Morphew, currently held on a $3 million bail, to the San Luis Valley in Colorado.

Morphew has consistently denied involvement, calling the renewed prosecution unfair. “Barry maintains his innocence. The case has not changed, and the outcome will not, either,” his lawyer stated.

The case drew national attention and remains one of Colorado's most high-profile domestic murder investigations.
