Explosive letter goes viral: Alleges murders, cover-ups in Dharmasthala; claims bodies were hidden

Daijiworld Media Network - Belthangady

Belthangady, June 23: A sensational letter claiming knowledge of multiple murders and sexual assaults in Dharmasthala village has gone viral on social media, setting off shockwaves across the region.

The letter, purportedly signed by two Bengaluru-based lawyers, alleges that a man is ready to surrender to the police and reveal the locations of bodies secretly buried to cover up heinous crimes.

The letter, widely circulated under the heading "For Public Information", bears the names of advocates Ojaswi Gowda and Sachin S Deshpande.

It states that their client is overcome with guilt and has decided to approach police with information about brutal crimes committed in Dharmasthala — including the rape and murder of young girls, and the concealment of the victims' bodies.

Claims made in the letter

According to the letter, the unnamed individual is prepared to surrender at the Dharmasthala police station and assist in exhuming the buried remains of victims. One such body, the letter claims, has already been recovered by the man and is ready to be handed over to the police. The document alleges that these crimes had been deliberately suppressed and that the deceased were buried to destroy evidence.

The letter reportedly reads: “The man has made a conscious decision to come clean and cooperate with authorities by revealing the locations of the corpses he buried himself, following a series of heinous crimes involving rape and murder.” The gravity of the allegations, combined with the letter’s dramatic tone and public circulation, has fuelled widespread alarm.

Police react: Letter under scrutiny

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police, Dr Arun Kumar, confirmed that the police are aware of the letter and are currently verifying its authenticity.

“Dharmasthala police have reached out to the lawyers mentioned in the letter and gathered preliminary information,” said SP Kumar. “The lawyers have informed us that the man did indeed approach them, claiming to possess crucial information related to criminal acts in Dharmasthala village. He expressed willingness to surrender and disclose details, provided he is assured of legal protection.”

The SP added that once the man presents himself to police and shares verifiable information, appropriate legal proceedings will follow.

Viral sensation: Social media erupts

The letter has triggered a frenzy on social media platforms, sparking widespread concern, speculation, and outrage. Given Dharmasthala’s religious prominence and reputation as a revered pilgrimage site, the allegations have deeply unsettled the community.

The suggestion that such crimes could have taken place—and that they were systematically covered up—has only intensified the public's demand for truth and justice.

What next?

Authorities are expected to act swiftly if the man surrenders as indicated. He is likely to give a formal statement under legal counsel, which may prompt forensic recovery operations at the suspected burial sites.

A full-fledged criminal investigation is expected to follow, including corroboration of the man’s claims and potentially the involvement of higher investigative agencies if the matter escalates further.

SP Kumar reiterated that no assumptions will be made until the individual comes forward and the facts are verified by due process.
