Bantwal, Jan 30: Lokayukta police arrested a surveyor working at the taluk survey office while accepting a bribe of Rs 7,500 from a person who sought services related to division of property, on Monday January 30.

The police arrested 29-year-old Pramod Kumar, who was transferred from Sullia to work in the taluk surveyor’s office, on the basis of a complaint filed with the Lokayukta office. Lokayukta SP Sadanand Varnekar, sub-inspector Uday Naik, and other police personnel were involved in this raid.

Background of the case

The late Rama Poojary owned property at Peeladka in Kolnad gram panchayat. His eldest son Laxman Poojary approached the surveyor’s office to equally divide the inheritance among five siblings, four months ago. Surveyor Kumar reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1,500 each and it was agreed that a lump sum of Rs 7,500 will be handed to Kumar on Monday January 30.

Laxman Poojary, who was fed up with the delaying tactics of surveyor to extract money, lodged a complaint with Lokayukta police. Accordingly, the police planned their move and caught Kumar red-handed and arrested him.
