Mangaluru, Jul 20: In a proactive move to foster a safe and inclusive campus environment, the anti-ragging committee of Srinivas University, Institute of physiotherapy organised an impactful guest talk on anti-ragging awareness on July 19.

The session was titled "Zero Tolerance: Legal and ethical perspectives on ragging", and it aimed to sensitize students about the legal implications and ethical responsibilities associated with ragging.

The session was graced by Dr Pavithra Kumari, dean of the Institute of Aviation Studies, who addressed the students as the guest speaker.

In her insightful talk, Dr Pavithra highlighted the serious consequences of ragging on both victims and perpetrators, emphasising that ragging is not just a disciplinary issue but a legal offense under the Indian Penal Code and UGC regulations. She elaborated on the psychological and academic impacts of ragging and urged students to uphold values of respect, empathy, and mutual dignity.

The event also served to reaffirm the institute’s “Zero Tolerance Policy” against ragging, aligning with the University’s commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 – peace, justice, and strong institutions.

Students participated actively, who appreciated the relevance and timeliness of the topic. Through real-life examples and legal references,

Dr Pavithra Kumari effectively conveyed the gravity of ragging-related offenses and the institutional mechanisms in place for prevention and redressal. By spreading awareness and strengthening preventive measures, the Institute of Physiotherapy continues to uphold a culture where every student feels safe, respected, and empowered.
