Karnataka DG & IGP issues directive to restrict siren use during VIP movement

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jul 21: In a move aimed at ensuring public safety and controlling noise pollution, the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) of Karnataka Dr M A Saleem has issued a directive to all unit heads, instructing them to limit the use of sirens during VIP movements.

The order highlights that unnecessary use of sirens not only inconveniences the public and contributes to noise pollution, but may also compromise the security of dignitaries by revealing their route to unauthorised individuals. Sudden siren usage on public roads can confuse other motorists, potentially causing disruption to escort and convoy vehicles.

The directive states that emergency communication tools such as wireless systems should be used effectively during VIP travel, as they offer a more disciplined and safer alternative for coordinating vehicle movements.

It further clarifies that sirens should be used only by emergency service vehicles such as ambulances, police vehicles, and fire engines, and that too only in unavoidable emergency situations.

All unit heads have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive and to issue necessary instructions to officers and personnel under their jurisdiction.
