New Delhi, July 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his latest Mann Ki Baat address, lauded Mangaluru’s organic waste management initiative, citing it as a model for other Indian cities striving for sustainability and cleanliness.

Speaking during the 111th episode of the monthly radio programme, the prime minister said, “Organic waste management is being done with the help of technology in Mangaluru.”

He highlighted the importance of localised, tech-driven solutions in addressing urban waste challenges and praised the city’s proactive role in the nationwide Swachh Bharat Mission.

Mangaluru has made significant strides in solid waste management through its decentralised processing units, including composting of organic waste and segregation at source. The city’s commitment has also earned it accolades in national cleanliness surveys.

This recognition from the highest level of government has been met with appreciation from civic officials and residents alike. “It is a proud moment for Mangaluru. The mention by the PM is a validation of the hard work of our sanitation teams, officials, and citizens,” said a senior official from the Mangaluru City Corporation.
