Mangaluru, Aug 11: St Agnes School CBSE, celebrated the enduring legacy and vibrant spirit of Indigenous communities through creative expression and thoughtful remembrance on August 9, in the school hall.

The ceremony opened with a solemn and heartfelt prayer service, setting a sacred tone for the celebration. The calm, respectful atmosphere fostered harmony and a sense of connection among all present.

The mood then shifted from reflection to celebration as the audience enjoyed a captivating welcome dance, followed by an inspiring welcome speech from Reemal of grade 6. She warmly greeted the gathering and acknowledged the presence of the chief guest, Lavina Peris, mathematics teacher, St Agnes School CBSE; coordinator, Sr Lavishanthi AC; teaching and non-teaching staff; and enthusiastic students. As a gesture of hospitality, coordinator Sr Lavishanthi AC presented a flower pot to the chief guest.

A highlight of the event was a vibrant dance performance by students, paying tribute to the diverse and colourful traditions of India’s tribal communities. The performance embodied the energy, grace, and cultural richness of Indigenous heritage.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, Lavina Peris, delivered an inspiring and meaningful speech on the importance of respecting and supporting Indigenous cultures while protecting the environment. She encouraged students to read books about Indigenous people and take active steps towards reconciliation, cultural respect, and environmental care.

The event was smoothly hosted by Sienna and Chrisel of grade 6. As the programme drew to a close, Saanvi of grade 6 delivered a sincere and well-articulated vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, staff, students, and all contributors.

The celebration concluded with the school anthem, symbolizing unity and school spirit. Indigenous Heritage Day at St Agnes School CBSE proved to be a beautiful celebration of culture, tradition, and identity—enriching understanding while reminding all of the value of inclusivity, respect, and unity in diversity.
