Bantwal, Aug 15: Loreto English Medium High School (CBSE) and Loreto Aided Kannada Medium School celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor on August 15.
The chief guest for the occasion was Fr Vincent D’Souza, director of the Canara Organization for Development and Peace, Mangalore. School manager Fr Francis Crasta, principal Fr Jason Vijay Monis, Cyprian D’Souza, vice president of the parish council, Rodney Ivan D’Souza PTA vice president, Sr Idoline Rodrigues headmistress, Loreto Aided Kannada Medium School, and Shaila Barboza secretary of the parish council were present on the dias.

The chief guest and dignitaries were escorted to the venue in a ceremonial procession, proudly led by the school band. The programme commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest, accompanied by the dignitaries, as the gathering stood united to sing the national anthem.
In his address, Fr Vincent D’Souza reflected on India’s rich and complex history, speaking of how various dynasties ruled and exploited the land before the country finally gained freedom through the sacrifices of countless heroes. He highlighted the importance of equality, a value that begins in schools, and reminded students that “values are more important than valuables.”
Delivering the presidential address, Fr Francis Crasta paid tribute to the freedom fighters and called upon students to keep the spirit of patriotism alive. He encouraged them to consider serving the nation in the future, whether by joining the armed forces or aspiring to become IAS or IPS officers.
The celebration featured a vibrant cultural programme, with students from both the Kannada and English Medium sections showcasing patriotic songs, dances, and skits. Each performance beautifully captured the essence of India’s freedom struggle and national pride.
School head girl Riya delivered a speech on the significance of Independence Day, Ashwini, teacher at the Kannada Medium School, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. The event was compered by Daivik and Dale Alba Lobo of class 8. The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by principal Fr Jason Vijay Monis.
