Udupi: St Lawrence English Medium School celebrates 79th Independence Day

Udupi, Aug 16: The 79th Independence Day celebration began with a warm welcome to the chief guest, Valentine D’Souza, through a grand procession. Kumari Jenilia Fernandes of class 5 served as the MC of the inaugural programme. The event commenced with the school choir singing the National Song. The chief guest hoisted the national flag; afterwords choir group sang the national anthem and the flag song as a mark of respect to the nation. Sweets were then distributed to all students.

The school band led the procession along with the students of 6th to 10th standard followed by the dignitaries for the cultural program which was held at the St Lawrence Church Hall. The stage programme started with an introduction. Headmistress Sandra Lobo escorted the dignitaries to the dais. The programme was started with a prayer song sang by the choir group, after which, Kumari Melita Martis extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, and administrator C A Pritish Burton D’Sa welcomed all the guests with floral bouquets.

In her message, headmistress Sandra Lobo highlighted the significance of this special day. A proud moment of the celebration was the felicitation of alumnus Pratham Kamath, who secured 3rd rank in VTU. Sumalatha Nayak introduced Pratham Kamath, and the administrator along with other dignitaries honored him. In his address, Pratham Kamath emphasized the value of hard work, dedication, and punctuality, with which any one can raise to success in life.

The administrator CA Pritish Burton D'Sa, highlighted the importance of sincere efforts in fostering good leadership in students, stressing that true leaders inspire, guide and work for the welfare of the society.

The occasion was also special as it honored the chief guest, Valentine D’Souza. Elvina Lobo introduced the chief guest, and he was felicitated by the correspondent and dignitaries. In his message, he urged everyone to be proud citizens of the nation through education and hard work, he also emphasize the importance of fitness through sports.

In view of Independence Day, several competitions had been conducted, and the winners were awarded prizes. The president, Fr George Thomas D’Souza, in his address, stressed that before caste or creed, we are Indians first.

Kumari Ashel D’Souza of class 6 proposed the words of gratitude.

The cultural programme included dances by students of LKG, UKG, class 1, and class 2, group songs by classes 4 and 7, and a skit by class 9 students. Rolson D’Souza of class 7 served as the MC for the cultural segment.
