Mangaluru: Tulu comedy drama draws packed audience for noble charity cause

Mangaluru, Nov 4: St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road, working towards the promotion of Konkani art, literature and culture, providing educational, medical & financial help to the needy, organised, a Tulu comedy drama – ‘Oriyaandala Sari Bodu’, by Lakumi Group’s Kusalda Kalavidaru, Mangaluru on November 2, at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Mira Road, for the charitable, social and medical cause of Carmel Jyothi Charitable Trust, Jagalur, Karnataka, St Joseph Church Trust and St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road.

Carmel Jyothi Charitable Trust®, Jagalur, Davanagere is working for the poor and downtrodden towards their medical aid, education, self-employment, financial assistance and other social welfare services in Karnataka State. The head of this trust Fr William Miranda OCD who was present on the occasion gave a brief report about their charity work.

On the dais, chief guest for the occasion social worker and educationist Arunodaya S Rai, guest, local former corporator of Mira Bhayandar Muncipal Corporation, Raju Mehra, parish priest Fr Lawrence D’Cunha, Fr William Miranda, St Joseph Konkani Welfare Association’s president Priya Noronha, secretary Macklin Fernandes, treasurer Elias Mathias and cultural secretary Terrance Pereira were present. Chief guest Rai and guest Mehra were felicitated with a shawl, a bouquet and a memento.

During the stage programme a Konkani short story book 'Nimanne Jevann ani Her Kathaa' published by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy recently, by Konkani writer and the committee member of St Joseph Konkani Welfare Association, Hilary D’Silva ( Prasann Niddodi) was opened.

Entry for the drama was free, but for the charity fund raising and cover the expenses ‘Lucky Dip’ coupons were sold to the people all over the world. During the same time the draw was opened and the lucky winners were as follows: Coupon 3359 won 1st prize: Rs 15,000, coupon 2789 won 2nd prize Rs 10,000, and coupon 2647 won 3rd prize – Rs 7500. The consolation prizes were won by coupon numbers – 9483, 2306, 3751, 4695 and 4096.

The hall was packed with audience who are familiar with Tulu and Konkani languages. All gathered enjoyed and appreciated with loud noise, the drama with full of comedy and social message.
