Mangaluru, Nov 12: A preparatory meeting for the centenary celebrations of the historic dialogue between Brahmashree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi was held at Bantara Bhavana, Asaigoli, under the leadership of assembly speaker U T Khader on Wednesday.
The state-level programme, titled Shatamana Maha Prasthana – Sri Narayana Guru–Gandhiji Samvada Shatamanotsava, is being jointly organised by Shivagiri Mutt, Varkala, and the Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, Mangalore University. The event is scheduled to be held in Konaje on December 3, with chief minister Siddaramaiah expected to participate.







Speaking on the occasion, U T Khader said the centenary celebration of the Guru–Gandhi dialogue is a significant and historic event for the state. “The programme in Konaje on December 3 will promote unity, brotherhood, and harmony among people from all walks of life,” he said.
Sri Vikhyatananda Swamiji, head of Arya Ediga Mahasamsthana, said Mahatma Gandhi had visited Shivagiri three times and that Brahmashree Narayana Guru had inspired him to fight not only for India’s freedom but also against untouchability in society. “This centenary celebration of their meeting is an important opportunity for the people of our region. Everyone must come forward and extend their support,” he urged.
Geetha Damodar Kundar, president of Konaje gram panchayat, said it was a matter of pride that such a major state-level event is being held in Konaje.
Veteran leader Ibrahim Kodijal said the teachings and ideals of both Brahmashree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi serve as guiding principles for all. “To ensure the success of their message, we must unite beyond caste, religion, and political differences to make the December celebration a success,” he said.
Leaders including K T Suvarna, Sadashiv Ullal, Haidar Parthippady, Chandrakanth Ullal, tahsildar Prabhakar Kore, Sri Narayana Study Chair director Jayaraj, advisory committee members P V Mohan, Prashanth Kajava, Devdas Bhandary, Kanachuru Monu, Rakshith Shivaram Beltangady, and nodal officer Prof Bhoja Poojary, along with several presidents and office-bearers of various organisations, were present.
Bantara Sangha president Ravindra Rai Kallimar welcomed the gathering, and Clara Cuello proposed the vote of thanks.
