Hathras, Dec 3: A tragic incident in Hathras district’s Madhav Vihar Colony has left the entire locality in shock after a young couple allegedly consumed poison following a domestic dispute. The 27-year-old wife, Priya, died during treatment, while her husband Gopal (29) remains in critical condition.

According to reports, the couple allegedly consumed poison late in the evening. Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing the constant cries of their two-year-old child. When they opened the door, they found both Priya and Gopal lying unconscious. They were immediately shifted to the hospital, where doctors declared Priya dead. Gopal continues to undergo treatment and his condition is said to be extremely serious.

Priya and Gopal were married in 2021 and have a two-year-old son. Priya was also four months pregnant at the time of the incident. Police said that a heated argument had taken place between Gopal and his father, Rajesh Yadav, on Tuesday night.

The incident took a serious turn after Priya’s father, Raso Yadav, filed a complaint with the Hathras police, alleging that his daughter was murdered for dowry. He claimed that Priya had been repeatedly harassed by her father-in-law Rajesh Yadav and other family members for dowry. Three years ago, he had brought the couple to his village due to the alleged harassment. However, a year ago, Rajesh reportedly called both of them back, after which the harassment continued.

Raso Yadav alleged that the in-laws administered poison to Priya and Gopal as dowry demands were not met. Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and grief across the village.
