Two Jodhpur businessmen die mysteriously in Thailand hotel pool

Jaipur, Dec 4: Two well-known businessmen from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, lost their lives under unclear circumstances after being found in the swimming pool of their hotel in Thailand. The victims, Anil Kataria — owner of Jiman Restaurant in Ratanada — and Harish Dewani, an acclaimed glass artist with an internationally recognised workshop, were on vacation with their families when the tragedy occurred.

The incident took place on the evening of December 1. Early accounts suggest that one of the men may have begun drowning and the other possibly entered the pool to help, but the precise sequence of events remains unverified. When the two did not return to their rooms for nearly an hour and a half, their wives alerted hotel staff. CCTV footage later revealed both men struggling in the water before drowning, and their bodies were subsequently recovered from the pool.

Harish’s elder son and a relative of Anil travelled to Thailand to handle the required legal formalities, which are now reportedly complete. The bodies are expected to arrive in Jodhpur by Thursday evening. Both families in Ratanada are in deep shock, with relatives and neighbours gathering in silence. Due to his fragile health, Anil’s elderly father has not yet been informed.

Harish Dewani was particularly known for his mastery in trans-print glass engraving and sandblasted designs, drawing visitors from around the world to his Jodhpur workshop. He also taught international students online, helping to preserve and promote the craft. More information is expected once the families return from Thailand.
