Mangaluru, Jan 8: The fourth day of the Novena in preparation for the annual feast of the Infant Jesus was observed with deep devotion and vibrant participation of the faithful at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte.

The day’s theme, “Make every effort to confirm your calling,” was reflected upon in the light of the writings and spirituality of St John of the Cross, highlighting the call to perseverance, interior discipline, and faithful commitment to one’s Christian vocation.

In view of the 300th anniversary of the canonisation of St John of the Cross (1726–2026) and the 100th anniversary of his proclamation as Doctor of the Church (1926–2026), a special exhibition was inaugurated on the same day by Fr Sunil Praveen Pinto, principal of St Ann’s English Medium School, Kadaba.

The exhibition aims to familiarise the faithful with the life and teachings of St John of the cross and to promote and encourage human talents. It features creative displays including stars, posters, and drawings of the Infant Jesus prepared by devotees as part of various competitions held during the Christmas season.

The day was marked by intense spiritual as well as cultural and social activities. A total of nine holy Eucharistic celebrations were held, with special prayers offered for all families of the world, that they may become cradles of human virtues.

A spirit of fellowship and hospitality prevailed as Anna Santarpane (community meal) was served to all the devotees who had gathered in large numbers. The day concluded on a deeply prayerful note with the Infant Jesus Rosary after the 6 pm. Mass, as the faithful came together to entrust their families and personal intentions to the loving care of the Infant Jesus.
