Bangalore, Feb 27: A petitioner, who sought to prosecute the trio of BJP leaders who were caught watching blue film clips on their mobile phones inside the Karnataka legislative assembly and paid the price by losing their cabinet ministerial berths, has been given time by a local court to file his objections to the police affidavit on the scandal by March 7.
The Vidhana Soudha police, in their affidavit filed before the 8th Additional City Metropolitan Magistrate Kiran Kini on February 15, had contended that the petition by private individual Dharmapal Gowda was 'not maintainable' on account of the petitioner’s failure to seek permission from the Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah to initiate prosecution against the three ex-ministers, who enjoy the privileges of the legislature by being MLAs.
The 8th Additional City Metropolitan Magistrate accepted the petitioner Dharmapal Gowda’s plea for more time to file his objections.
The three BJP leaders -- Laxman Savadi, C C Patil and Krishna Palemar – had to resign as Cabinet ministers on February 8, a day after the incident which was caught on camera by two regional TV channels.
