Mangaluru, Apr 20: Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) observed World Health Day 2026 with the theme ‘Together for Health: Stand with Science’. As part of the celebrations, the Quality department organized a health awareness programme titled ‘A Token of Care for the Guardians of the Road’ for Mangaluru traffic police personnel on April 15.
Over 150 traffic police officers participated in the initiative, which focused on occupational health concerns including stress, fatigue, dermatological issues, and musculoskeletal problems caused by prolonged standing and exposure to noise pollution.




















The medical superintendent Dr Uday Kumar welcomed the dignitaries, including the director of FMCI Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, DCP (Crime & Traffic) K Ravi Shankar (KSPS), administrator of FMMCH Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, administrator of FMMC Fr Dr Michael L Santhumayor, and traffic police inspector Shivkumar.
Support and care packages
Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo welcomed the chief guest, DCP K Ravi Shankar, with a sapling. A specialized care kit from the Father Muller Homoeopathic Pharmaceutical Division was handed over to the chief guest and distributed to all participants. These kits contained products designed to manage heat-related discomfort and body pain commonly experienced during long hours of outdoor duty.
The chief guest delivered an insightful keynote address, followed by a memento presentation. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo delivered the presidential address in Kannada, emphasizing the altruistic and dutiful nature of traffic police work.
Expert sessions
The programme featured three specialized health sessions:

Dermatology: Dr Rahul Nayak and Dr Sushmitha, senior residents from the department of dermatology, explained the challenges of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Hearing Health: Dr Cynthia Santhumayor, principal of FMCOSH, detailed the physiological impact of excessive noise on hearing, following an explanation of ear anatomy.

Physiotherapy: Pradeep KP, lecturer at Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, conducted an interactive session on musculoskeletal issues. He demonstrated simple exercises to manage strain caused by strenuous duty hours.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the national anthem. The programme was compered by Sonal Sophia Fernandes and Shyni Cardoza.
Special appreciation was extended to assistant sub-inspector Harish HP (PA to DCP) for coordinating the personnel, and the organizing team comprising liaison officer Dr Kelvin Peter Pais, quality manager Chitra Yathindra, and marketing coordinator Leslie Rosario for conceiving and executing the event under the guidance of Fr George Jeevan Sequeira.
