Farmer’s son overcomes failures to secure UPSC AIR 149, inspires aspirants with perseverance

Uttar Pradesh, Jun 6: Determination, self-belief and the unwavering support of family and mentors helped Mayank Bajpai, a farmer’s son from Kaimhara village in the Maholi region of Sitapur district, achieve an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 149 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024.

Mayank's journey to success was far from easy. After facing failure in his first two attempts, he was reluctant to appear for the examination again in 2024. However, encouragement from his parents, teachers, friends and seniors motivated him to give the prestigious examination one more try. The decision proved life-changing as he secured AIR 149 in his third attempt.

The son of farmer Vipin Kumar Bajpai and homemaker Poonam Bajpai, Mayank completed his schooling from classes 9 to 12 at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sitapur. He later moved to Delhi, where he pursued a bachelor's degree in Political Science (Honours) from Satyawati College (Evening), University of Delhi, followed by a master's degree from the department of political science at Delhi University's North Campus. It was during his graduation and post-graduation years that he began preparing for the UPSC examination.

Mayank also received guidance from the Government IAS-PCS Coaching Centre at Nizampur in Hapur district, where he had been preparing since 2023. He credits the coaching centre, along with the constant support of his parents, teachers, seniors and well-wishers, for helping him achieve success.

Sharing his message for UPSC aspirants, Mayank stressed the importance of confidence and staying connected with people. “Many candidates follow an isolation policy during preparation, but I do not believe in that approach. One should remain in touch with people, focus on the syllabus prescribed by UPSC and keep learning from it. At the same time, there are several other aspects that require equal attention,” he said.

Mayank is the youngest among three siblings. His sister, Prachi Bajpai, is also preparing for the UPSC examination while living in Delhi, while his elder brother, Nitin Bajpai, is preparing for competitive examinations. The family is currently residing in Jankipuram Extension in Lucknow.

From a farmer’s household in rural Uttar Pradesh to securing a place among the country’s top civil service achievers, Mayank Bajpai’s journey stands as a powerful reminder that persistence, family support and self-belief can turn setbacks into success.
