Kundapur: Police crack burglary case; two arrested, gold and silver worth Rs 11 lac recovered

Kundapur, Jun 6: In a swift breakthrough, Kundapur Rural police have cracked a house burglary case reported from Neralakatte in Karkunje village, arresting two accused persons and recovering stolen gold and silver ornaments worth nearly Rs 11 lac.

The arrested have been identified as Vijay Shetty (32), a resident of Kadur village in Brahmavar taluk, and Arjun Poojary (29), a resident of Indaru in Karkala taluk. The prime accused in the case, Mohammed Ashraf, named as the first accused, remains absconding and police teams are actively tracking his movements.

According to police, the burglary took place on May 23 at the residence of Niranjan Bhat, a resident of Neralakatte in Karkunje village. The accused allegedly broke open the main door lock, entered the house, and decamped with gold, silver ornaments and cash. The offence is believed to have occurred between 11:47 am and 9:10 pm while the house was unoccupied.

A case was registered at Kundapur Rural police station under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following the complaint.

Taking the case seriously, a special investigation team was constituted under the leadership of Kundapur sub-divisional police officer H D Kulkarni and circle inspector Santosh A Kaikini.

Acting on credible inputs, the team launched an operation on June 3 and succeeded in nabbing two accused persons.

Police recovered 66.22 grams of gold ornaments and 175.4 grams of silver ornaments, valued at around Rs 9 lac, from Vijay Shetty. From Arjun Poojary, officers seized 18.200 grams of gold ornaments, valued at approximately Rs 2 lac.

In total, stolen property worth nearly Rs 11 lac has been recovered, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.

The arrested accused were produced before the jurisdictional court following completion of formalities.

The successful operation was carried out by Kundapur Rural police station PSIs Niranjan Gowda and Chandrakala, along with personnel Raju B, Mounesh, Sridhar Patil, Kiran B Patil, and officers from Shankaranarayana, Amasebailu, Kollur, and Byndoor police stations.
