Bengaluru, July 14: The southwest monsoon is expected to gain momentum along Karnataka's coastline over the next five days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rainfall in the coastal districts and issuing a strong wind alert for Bengaluru and 12 other districts.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the state is likely to remain under cloudy skies for the next three days, with high relative humidity prevailing across most regions. The weather pattern is expected to bring a slight dip in temperatures over the coastal belt and parts of south interior Karnataka, resulting in cooler conditions.

The monsoon remains active over the coast, with Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada likely to receive light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in the coming days.
The IMD has also warned of strong and persistent winds of 30-40 kmph accompanying the rain, advising residents, fishermen and those engaged in outdoor activities along the coast to exercise caution.
Rainfall is also expected to continue across the Malnad region of south interior Karnataka, particularly in Kodagu and Hassan, where isolated monsoon showers have been forecast.
Meanwhile, gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely to affect several districts in south interior Karnataka and adjoining parts of north interior Karnataka. The districts under the wind alert include Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Vijayanagara, Ballari, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Mandya, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, where slight changes in weather conditions are also expected.
North interior Karnataka is likely to witness cloudy weather with relatively cool temperatures. While some districts may continue to experience dry conditions, wind speeds are expected to increase during the evening and night.
The IMD has advised farmers, particularly those cultivating banana and arecanut, to take precautionary measures as strong winds are expected to continue for the next three to five days.
Winds are forecast to blow mainly from the west and south-west, while atmospheric moisture levels are expected to remain high across the state, supporting continued monsoon activity.
