Mangalore, Mar 24: JD(S) party leaders and workers on Saturday March 24 came down heavily on their own leader, former Udupi district JD(S) president Deviprasad Shetty, after the latter's statement that the minority community betrayed party candidate Boje Gowda by not voting for him in the recent held Udupi-Chikamagalur Lok Sabha by-election.

At a press meet held on Saturday, D M Aslam, president, district minority cell of JD(S) said that the people's verdict in the by-election was accepted and honoured by the party. He also said it was a good move by the people to reject BJP.

"However, it was disheartening to note that Udupi district JD(S) president Deviprasad Shetty commented on minority community not voting for JD(S). The reason for the party's setback was lack of leaders, and poor party strength in Udupi district. Hence, collective efforts will have to be made to strengthen the party," he said and added that Deviprasad Shetty should gracefully accept failure.

It may be mentioned here that Deviprasad Shetty resigned from his president's post soon after the bypoll results were officially announced on March 21.

Sushil Noronha, secretary, Aziz Kudroli, corporator, Iqbal Mulki, state secretary, Yuva Janathadala among others were present.

Mr. Aslam, you have given a prudent answer to Mr. Deviprasad Shetty, your answer is very precise and you made clear statement as a Muslim leader in JD(S) that interest of community is paramount rather than personal interest.

Mr. Devi Prasad Shetty, minorities blindly never pledged allegiance to any political parties (Excluding BJP). That time has gone, Muslims are used to serve in the forefront of election campaign and they voted with greater sincerity for many secular parties expecting some kind of hope. After 6 decades of Independence Muslims carrying a burden of partition, they had never given breathing space to flourish and dividend of progress is a mere dream to them. Minorities are now much aware and matured. They won’t fall into the prey of political game and they realized now how their energy has exploited by so called secular parties.

Mr. Deviprasad Shetty must perceive that Bunts and Billavas are main contributors to the growth of BJP’s in the State.

Nothing wrong in Deviprasad Shetty’s statement regarding minority votes. In fact even majority votes were also not in favour of JDS. Contrarily, BJP now a day realized that without minority votes they can’t get full majority since all majority votes can’t go in favour of them too. But it is also true that only with minority votes any Political Party can’t come to power too. But surprisingly minority wings of JDS celebrated the BJP defeat instead of mourning their loss
