Mangalore: Rachana Organizes Talk on Sales Tax

Mangalore, Mar 25: Rachana Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a talk on ‘Sales tax, our obligation’, at Pio Mall here on Saturday March 24.
 
K M Sulochana, deputy commissioner of commercial taxes, here was the resource person for the session.

During the talk, she mentioned the pros and cons of the tax system. She said that most of the revolution that takes place in and around the world is always due to the tax policies.

“Usually the people tend to escape issuing bills as it involves a little percentage of tax. Since it is a part of corruption, those people are not eligible to campaign for Anna Hazare movement”, she added. She stressed on the point of how tax benefits the general public and said that tax is levied on people in order to make up for the expenses and to fill the government treasury for public needs.
 
She further said that all that one pays to the government through direct or indirect tax is always given back to the public by improving the public property, infrastructure and so on.
 
Marcel Monteiro, president of ‘Rachana’ and Raymond D’Cunnha, editor of ‘Pingara’ among others were present.

The session was compered by Lavina Monteiro.
