Asian Squash: Indian Men in Last Eight


Kuwait, May 3 (IANS): The Indian teams continued their winning ways in both the men's and women's sections at the 16th Asian team squash championship here Tuesday.

The men's team topped their pool defeating Jordan 3-0. Apart from National champion Saurav Ghosal who dropped a game to the very talented Ahmad Al Zabidi, all other players won convincingly. The boys play Japan in their quarterfinal tie.

The women trounced Sri Lanka in quick time to register their second victory in their pool and will be up against second seeded Malaysia in their final pool match.

The results:

Men - India beat Jordan 3-0: Mahesh Mangoankar bt Saif Al Braikat 11-2, 11-4, 11-2; Saurav Ghosal bt Ahmad Al Zabidi 11-5, 9-11, 11-3, 11-6; Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu bt Ahmad Al Saraj 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.

Women - India beat Sri Lanka 3-0: Anaka Alankmony bt Naduni Gunawardane 11-0, 11-8, 11-2; Dipika Pallikal bt Mihiliya Methsarani 11-4, 11-2, 11-5; Joshna Chinappa bt Damindhi Udangawe 11-5, 11-4, 11-3.
