Kuwait, Jun 2: Following the stupendous success of the mega Konkani singing talent hunt show 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' in 2008 and 2010, ‘Youth Recreation Center’ organized the preliminary rounds of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 3’ on Friday June 1 at RV Shetty hall of Avanthi Palace Restaurant, Salmiya.

After the final registration process, the event started at 4 pm with the formal introduction of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 3’and its founder organizers Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues by Rita Rodrigues. Organising committee members Wilson Saldanha and Rita Rodrigues were present on the dais. Organizer Lawrence Pinto extended a warm welcome to the audiences and participants.

Judges for the day’s competition - Kuwait’s famous music maestro and 'A R Rehman of Konkani' Adrian Gomes, professional musician Kiran Gonsalves who arranged music for Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2010 Kuwait semi-finals and Gladys Noronha who is a singer, composer, story writer and music teacher by profession - were introduced by Rita Rodrigues. The judges were then escorted to the dais by Wilson Saldanha and presented with bouquets. Judging files were then handed over to the judges by the organizers. All the three judges are well-known personalities of Kuwait in the music field.

The competitions were held separately for male and female contestants. The numbering sequence was done by lots during registration before the programme. Runner-up of Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2010 Warren D’Souza picked the lots and female singers were chosen to sing first. Vote of thanks was proposed by Wilson Saldanha Shirthady. The program was compered well by Rita Rodrigues. Kuwait’s well known guitarist Joy Fernandes gave guitar to most of the contestants voluntarily, as he has done in the previous two auditions of GVOM.

Names of the preliminary round winners, who will move on to the semi-final round of Gulf Voice of Mangalore, are given below (badge number wise):

Male:

Royston Joseph D’Almeida (#7)
Jossy D’Cunha (#10)
Orson Albert D’Souza (#11)
Rilson D’Souza (#12)
Marcus Denis Almeida (#13)
Roshan Olivera (#15)

Female:

Renuka Cutinha (#1)
Lolita Fronteiro (#2)
Renita Raina D’Mello (#3)
Cynthia Mable Pinto (#6)
Laveena Praphulla D’Souza (#7)
Marina Samson Veigas (#11)

These singers from the preliminary rounds will be competing in the semi-finals to be held on Friday September 21 at The American International School (Kamil Al-Rayes auditorium) Maidan Hawally. From among the male and female categories, one successful contestant each will then go to Qatar for the finals to continue their hunt for the coveted title, along with ten other contestants from Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The finals will will be held on October 19.

The main idea behind this show is to provide a platform to Konkani singers residing in the Gulf. There are many singing talents sprinkled all over GCC who do not get the right break to showcase their talents. This competition will open new doors for them and enable them to bring out their hidden talents.

I completely agree with Max & Jessie. Organizing an event like this is not easy, they put their hard work to make the event successful. But sometimes controversy do occur because of judges. Yes, ion of judges should be done carefully. This usually happens when we choose 2/3 judges from the same place in origin or if the judge is not so popular. At least one popular singer has to be a judge as he knows the depth of singing little more. Its very natural to bring out the negative points and sometimes bringing out negative points will help us to learn and to be more careful the next time. Guys for this time, whatever may be the result lets not discourage our semifinalists with rude and direct comments lets encourage them. All the best to all the semifinalists. Thank you Organizers appreciate your efforts and goodwill.

Seasonal competitions thru display of talents is a great benefit to the society in which we live and prosper. The more the participants take part the more benefit the community benefits because it is encouragement of many more to follow in future years. This is all good for the people that we surround with.

Selecion of judges is a delicate function that has to be carefully decided and should be delicately handled. Once the judges have been ed then we all have to respect the decision of the judges. Each of us have our own tastes and likings but the decision of the appointed judges shold be final and the chapter is closed.

The people residing in the Gulf region are fully seasoned by competitions of all kinds. The display of performances on the stage have reached high quality of standards with the best of Auditoriums, best of sound system and best of facilities. The audience plays an important part in each and every occasion, and therefore the audience should accept one single fact that each and every competitor is a "Winner" and there are no losers in the bargain.

We have attended so many Beauty Pageants where dozens of beauties from all over the world take part. Each and everyone is so pretty, but finally one prettiest beauty has to be the "Worlds Best", and that is the decision we have to gracefully place in the hands of our appointed judges.

We have to modify our mentality with the change of time.

I was reading all the comments till now and was having a laugh. Some people here who may not even know the event come with comments that relations are selected.
Other probably have a case of "grapes are sour".
Commenting negatively is the easiest solution but I believe that the we should tip our hats that someone has the courage to have such an event where people who never would have had a chance are able to show their talent.
Honestly, if people who make vague comments are able to do these events better, then join hands with like minded people and make things happen and have events where "real talent" as is stated in comments can come through.

One look and Renita and she should be in the finals, but then I should hear everybody! Maybe that's why I have not become a 'judge' in any competition!I 'fall' for looks at the outset-then everything follows! In any case, time I think to unleash my to be smash(?)hit'Baala Sambhal'. However this on a pre-condition that I must get at least 20 'Agree's'. Otherwise whom should I write for? The bee's?
