Udupi, Oct 3: Respect towards Gandhi is decreasing among the young generation. There is lack of knowledge about the path followed by Gandhi, said Ajjarakad Women's Government First Grade College professor Dr Ramdas Prabhu.

Speaking on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations held in the Ravindra Mantap of MGM College, organized by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College Gandhi Study Centre, he added that Gandhi’s non-violent methods of protest will continue until any new method is introduced.

"Gandhi was not just a fighter. He carried out 8 protests at a time. Gandhi reformed India with his principle of non-violence," he added.

"Gandhi teachings are known internationally. Leaders of different nations have followed the principles of Gandhi, namely Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi and others. Leaders who followed the extremists methods have achieved temporary victories, and in turn have given rise to violence, hatred and enemity," he explained.

MGM College principal Dr P Venkataramana Gowda and MGM PU College principal Malathi Devi were present. Sonali Nayak, first place winner in the Mangalore University-level elocution competition on Mahatma Gandhi, gave a presentation. MGM College professor Dr Putthi Vasanth Kumar welcomed. Prof Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty compered. Vineeth Rao proposed the vote of thanks.
