Mumbai, Aug 1: Disappointment will strike all Katrina Kaif fans all over with the recent announcement of the casting of  filmmaker Farah Khan's next project 'Happy New Year'.

Deepika Padukone will step in to star opposite bollywood king Shahrukh Khan. After the success of Jab tak Hai Jaan, fans  have been expecting the much loved pair of SRK and Kat.

Sources close to Katrina state that due to time constraint the actress had to decline this offer. Farah Khan and Katrina Kaif have had a mutual bonding after the not so successful 'Tees Maar Khan'. Farah was looking forward to cast a fresh new face for this film and after the search returned fruitless, Kat was chosen for this role.

The recent signing of two new films one with Kabir Khan starring Saif Ali Khan and another adaption of Charles Dickens by Abhishek Kapoor have filled up all dates for the rest of the year for Katrina Kaif. She is also committed to finishing off Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Dhoom 3 and Siddharth Anand’s Bang Bang.

A hectic schedule for Kat has now opened the chance for Deepika Padukone. The role of a bar dancer who needs to be well versed in Marathi would be a challenging yet perfect role for the talented Deepika.

Film buffs will note that the movie 'Happy New Year' was talked about in the year 2005 with rumors of casting Priyanka Chopra in the lead. This will also be Farah Khans reunion project with Shahrukh Khan.
