Mangalore, Feb 15: Krishna and Babu who are said to have killed Meghraj (47), a barber at Ullal near here on Monday February 13 night were arrested by the Ullal police and produced before the court on Tuesday February 14.

Meghraj was found dead in the dilapidated building belonging to the fire brigade on the Ullal beach road.  He was working in a saloon at the Hotel Paris building.  The initial report suggested that he was strangled to death.  Along with that his chest too was slit. 

The police led by inspector Anand Kaboori in a lightning operation arrested five persons who were said to be with Meghraj on the night he was murdered.  The investigation revealed that all 5 of them were drunk and under the influence of the alcohol they had picked up a quarrel.  At some point of their quarrel, Babu and Krishna strangled him with a rope and slit his chest.

As a result Meghraj died on the spot.  But both of them did not know that he was dead.  They came to know about his death only when police arrested them within a few hours of finding Meghraj's body on Tuesday.  During the investigation they revealed that they did not kill Meghraj intentionally but the heavy influence of alcohol led them to commit such a heinous crime.

Meghraj hailed from Tamil Nadu and currently resided at Bandikotte near Ullal.  His wife hails from Kerala and the couple has a girl child.  Though he had his own house, seldom did he go to his house in the night.  Most of the time he used to sleep in the same building where he was found murdered on Tuesday morning.  So his wife did not know about his murder till the police informed her on Tuesday afternoon.
