Mangalore: Father Muller to host 'Maternal Medicine' on Dec 8

Mangalore, Dec 5: "The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Father Muller medical College is organizing a continuing Medical Education programme on 'Maternal Medicine 2013' on December 8 in the College," said Prakash Shetty, vice dean of FMMC at a press meet on Thursday December 5.

The officials adressing the press meet said that the maternal mortal rate in India is still one of the highest in the world at 212 per one lakh live births. The millennium development goal stresses the need to reduce this number by 2015.

"Medical disorders complicating pregnancy are on the rise and are increasingly responsible for a significant proportion of this maternal mortality. A multidisciplinary team approach to tackle these disorders will go a long way in making our mothers feel safe and secure," he added.

The college has invited highly experienced and dedicated faculty as resource persons for this programme. The organizers wish for this update will help participants practice evidence- based- maternal medicine and help healthy pregnancy.

"This CME will benefit medical practioners in the field including government doctors from first referral units and all obstetricians, physicians, anesthetics, and nursing personnel. Together we hope to achieve our ultimate goal- 'Safe Motherhood', for “sharing responsibilities is sharing strengths," he said.

U T Khadar, honourable minister for health and family welfare, will grace the function and deliver the keynote address on maternal Mortality.

This CME has been endorsed by, national rural and health mission and Karnataka medical council and Indian college of obstetricians and gynecologists.

Dr Prem D’Cunha, organising chairperson and Dr Vidhyashri Kamath, organising secretary were also present.
