Bangalore, Jan 19: The Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) will be observing a day-long State-wide campaign for filling up 1.80 lac vacancies in the State Government, including about 6,000 backlog vacancies, on January 21.

The State SDPI president Abdul Majeed, has in a press release said, the party workers will be observing protests in all taluk and district headquarters in the State for filling up of the huge list vacancies in as many as 60 government departments.

The huge vacancies and denial of job opportunities to unemployed youth was creating social problems and also affecting the administration, developmental programmes and redressal of public grievances, he said asserting that solving unemployment problem among educated youth should be the first priority of the government.

While the previous BJP government headed by B S Yeddyurappa decided to increase the retirement age of government employees from 58 to 60 years in 2008, the present Congress government headed by Siddaramaiah was not showing any interest in recruitments to fill up the vacancies, Majeed said.

He warned that the SDPI will involve other progressive organizations and intensify the agitation if the government failed to take immediate action for filling up the vacancies.
