Thieves loot 80 sovereigns of gold from house near Manjeshwar

Kasargod, Jan 22: Thieves decamped with 80 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a house at Kadambar near Manjeshwar here on Monday January 20 night.

The house belongs to Abdul Khader, a resident of Kadambar. The thieves came with their faces masked gained entry into the house by breaking the door. They also broke open the cupboard and looted the gold.

Abdul Khader, his wife, children and brothers were said to be in the house at the time of the theft.  When Abdul Khader got up early in the morning on hearing the noise, he saw two people with their faces covered running out. It is said that there were two more masked men waiting outside.

Manjeshwar police, Kasargod DySP, canine squad and fingerprints experts visited the spot.

Abdul Khader, who was employed abroad, had come back a year ago.  Attempts to loot had also taken place at the houses of neighboring Abubakker, Maimuna, Ibrahim and Farooq.  It is said that thefts in Manjeshwar have increased giving rise to anxiety among the people.

A serial theft had occurred in Kunjathur last week, wherein thieves who entered the house of Moidin Ali had stolen 23 sovereigns of gold and Rs 80,000 in cash, besides attempts to loot four of the neighboring houses.  Thefts have also taken place at Manjeshwar and Kunjathur a few days ago.

In another theft, 15 sovereigns of gold and Rs 20,000 in cash was looted from the house of K P Ali Kutty. Theft attempts at five neighboring houses are also reported. The thieves fled when the residents woke up, it is learnt.

Police have said that a network of professional thieves may be operating in the region.
